Eddie Da Silva Architects is an Architectural firm based in Wilderness, with an interior design showroom in George, Western Cape. They design high-end residential homes, and create custom furniture pieces to complete interiors and turn-key projects. They have also won The Quinquennial Tile Award in Italy for this project, which only happens every 2 years. We are honoured to be the timber coating choice for this prestigious project.Project Overview:
This 1260m² home was designed for a french couple for a holiday house on the beach in Wilderness, which was also featured on Top Billing in November 2017. The home is designed in such a way that it has a Northern and Southern aspect. The Northern aspect is very important as this has a direct impact on natural light and warmth that flows through the house.
When the doors are open on the North & South sides - one has a seamless flow from the pool area on the Northern side, to the sea and the beach on the Southern side. The kitchen and living areas, are both open-plan, which also creates a seamless interaction with the exterior space. Rubio Monocoat was specified on the interior and exterior timber surfaces, such as the furniture, kitchen counter top, built-in cupboards, staircasing, as well as outdoor furniture. The interior has a minimalistic and uncluttered feel, rather placing a greater emphasis on the sea, and to the mountains on the Northern side. A dark charcoal colour was chosen for the exterior, and this is in contrast with the light walls inside the house. The kitchen has a clean contemporary feel. There is a spine-wall running through the house, which is cladded with dark ribbon stoning, and copper colours. The furniture is uncluttered as well as being practical for a house that is right on the beach.
